THE CHALLENGE
A major North-Sea operator was searching for a remote equalising device to be deployed below a shallow barrier for a workover project. The requirement was to find an efficient solution that would provide a large through-bore when functioned open and could be pulled with the completion, reducing rig time and intervention requirements.
THE CONCEPT
The Oilenco pressure wave valve, which can be run below any retrievable bridge plug, packer or lock mandrel, provided an intervention-free method of opening a circulation path when activated. With no well specific setups required, and no reliance on electrics or batteries, the pressure wave valve was the ideal solution and installed in the well to complete the shallow barrier package.
THE RESULT
For this project, the pressure wave valve was set to 12 pressure wave cycles, however this can vary depending on client parameters and limitations.
During the operation, the client experienced issues with the installation and testing of the drilling BOP. With the pressure wave valve set at the 12-cycle range, this allowed the client to investigate and conduct the necessary pressure testing without the concern of opening a circulation path.
Once all issues were rectified, the pressure wave valve was cycled open as designed, allowing large pump-through capabilities. The setup allowed the completion to be pulled with the plug and pressure wave valve in-situ with no additional intervention required.
CLIENT SUPPORT
In collaboration with the client, the 3.700" pressure wave valve was identified as the ideal size for the completion. With a flow area of 2.782in2, it created the largest through-bore possible. As this size had already been designed and installed on other assets, our in-house manufacturing, assembly and testing teams produced and mobilised the tool to the asset within the client's timescale.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
When the completion was pulled and equipment returned for breakdown, a substantial amount of debris was found within the tubing. The debris management system within the pressure wave valve allowed for successful activation without any issues from the debris.
